The Girls Of Summer

Rate:

We’ve rounded up some of our fave beauty looks and dished on how to get ’em.

Ride the Wave

Britney is back, and so is her hair (thankfully). We are straight up giddy for the blonde beachy waves she wore to a recent judging session for the X factor. Here’s why: it screams second-day hair. Like when you get your hair curled for a wedding and then it looks better the next day.

DIY tip: Spritz on a texturizing spray and then use a curling iron – sans clamp – for relaxed waves. The looser, the better. Glow pick: Marc Anthony Salon Expert Amplifying Texture Spray.

Smoke Signals

We love a good smoky eye in the summertime, when it’s the least expected. We can’t take our eyes off Rose Byrne’s version that’s heavy on the black liner without hijacking her entire look.

DIY: Start with a base of neutral shadow and apply it over the entire eyelid. Use brown shadow in the crease and just beneath they eye for extra drama. Outline the eyes with black liner (including the inner eye rim) and finish off with mascara. Glow pick: Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Stingray.

Fringe Benefits

It’s true, we've always had a girl crush on Zooey Deschanel and she can pretty much do no wrong, but that doesn’t mean we always love her hair choices (ahem, the 2012 Oscars). Luckily, her recent style doesn’t disappoint. In our book, these bangs are, well, banging: Not too long or shot and just the right amount of wow factor.

DIY: Blow-dry your bangs using your fingers to mess them up a bit, moving from side to side. For extra polish, finish drying with a paddle brush and add a bit of sine serum to them. Glow pick: Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Sheer Shine Mist.

Code Red

Just when we thought Blake Lively couldn’t look any better, she goes and channels old Hollywood and knocks it outta of the park. This matte red lipstick lends just the right dose of glamour (that doesn’t alienate the rest of her makeup) for a red carpet.

DIY: Outline lips using a red lipliner that matches your red lipstick and then apply a matte red lipstick using a lip brush, for precision. Glow pick: Lancôme Color Design Sensational Effects Lipcolor in Red Haute.
