A summer-ready stare is best served up with a wash of vibrant colour. Stick with just one shade and wear minimal makeup on your cheeks and lips. "Concentrate the pigment around your lash line and then blend the colour upwards," says Grace Lee, the lead makeup artist for Maybelline New York.

To make a statement, wear one colour three ways. Stay within one colour family and try to play with textures. "I used a glossy shadow and a matte lipstick to keep it from looking too doll-like," says Lee.

Matching lips and tips is the look du jour, as seen on Dior and Jason Wu runways. Lee chose orange to punctuate the model's lips and nails. "It's a universally flattering shade that makes you feel happy."

GET IN LINE
If black winged liner has become your beauty standby, try switching up your routine by adding colour. Follow the natural curve of your eyes, and choose a matte formula over a frosty one, which can look dated.

INTO THE BLUE
Blue mascara is having a modern moment. "These are not the same formulas from the '80s, the pigment is more powerful so you don't have to wear any shadow or liner with it," says Lee.
